Play Golf Solitaire online
Golf is a quick one. Seven columns of five cards, and you clear them by playing cards one rank up or down onto a single pile. A round takes a couple of minutes.
How to play
- Play the bottom cards. Only the card at the bottom of each column can be played.
- One up or one down. A card can go on the waste pile if it's one rank higher or lower than the top waste card. Suit doesn't matter. Tap it, or drag it across.
- Chains are the whole game. 5, 6, 7, 6, 5, 4 is a perfectly good run of plays.
- Stuck? Tap the stock to turn a new card onto the waste pile. The stock only goes through once.
- No wrapping. Kings and Aces are not neighbours.
Scoring
As in real golf, low scores win. When you run out of plays, your score is the number of cards still in the columns. Clear the lot and you've made a hole in one.
Tips
- Look for the longest chain, not just the next play. Going up and back down can clear far more cards.
- Keep bridge cards. A card that could link two runs is worth saving for later.
- Count what's left. If three 8s are gone, don't build towards an 8.
Questions people ask
- Does suit matter in Golf Solitaire?
- No. Only the rank matters. A 7 can take a 6 or an 8 of any suit.
- Can I play an Ace on a King?
- No. Golf does not wrap around, so a King and an Ace are not next to each other. A King can take a Queen, and an Ace can take a 2.
- Why is it called Golf?
- Like golf, a lower score is better. Your score is the number of cards left in the columns when you run out of plays.
- How long does a game take?
- Usually two or three minutes, which is why people like it for a quick break.
