About Play Solitaire Online

I'm David, and I built this site for my mum.

Why I built it

For as long as I can remember, my mum has played solitaire on the computer. For years it was the Microsoft version that came with Windows: the same green table, the same small cards, the same handful of options. She played it most evenings to wind down.

Then things changed around her. She moved from the old desktop to a laptop, and later to a tablet, and the game she knew didn't come along. The small cards had also become harder for her to read. The free sites she found instead were slow, crowded with ads that sat right on top of the cards, and some wanted her to create an account before she could deal a single hand.

So I made her one. Cards that grow to fill whatever screen she's using. An Undo button that goes back as far as she likes. A few calm card designs and some quiet music. No account, nothing to install, and nothing covering the table.

Once Klondike was done she asked for FreeCell and Spider, which she'd played on Windows too. The rest followed from there. She still plays most evenings, and now anyone else can as well.

Who runs the site

Play Solitaire Online is made by Lunar Interactive Arts Ltd, a small London studio that makes games for phones and the web. It's one of a family of free game sites, with Sudoku, Mahjong, Backgammon and Minesweeper on the way.

How it's paid for

The games are free because the site shows a small number of ads beside and below the table. They never cover the cards. The privacy policy explains how that works.
